Man and Van toLyon
A studio, a single room or a few pieces of furniture heading to Lyon. We run part-loads on a shared vehicle, so a small move is priced on the space it uses rather than on a whole lorry standing half empty.
A working city, and a steady stream of small moves
Lyon is France second city by economic weight and it moves people differently from Paris. The pharmaceutical and biotech cluster, the banking and consulting firms around Part-Dieu, and one of the largest student populations in the country together produce a lot of one-person and one-room moves rather than full family relocations. That is exactly what a shared van is for.
It is also far enough south that a dedicated lorry for a few cubic metres stops making sense. At around 755 km the fuel, the driver hours and the crossing all have to be paid for whether the vehicle is full or not, so on this route a part-load is usually the difference between a sensible price and an absurd one.

UK to Lyon, step by step
After a quick survey — in person or over video — you get a fixed, itemised quote. Then it runs like this.
We price it by the space you use
Send a short video walkthrough of what is going. We measure the volume and check the access at both ends, then give you one fixed figure covering collection, the crossing, customs and delivery.
We collect and clear customs
Our crew loads at your door and your goods travel on a shared vehicle with other loads heading the same way. We prepare the Transfer of Residence relief and the valued inventory so nothing is held at the border.
We deliver into the room
Not to the pavement. We carry in, place where you want it and reassemble what we took apart. Where the stairwell will not take a piece we tell you at quote stage, not on the day.

Getting a van to your door in Lyon
Lyon operates a low-emission zone across the city and the inner ring, so vehicles need a valid Crit-Air sticker. Ours carry one. The bigger practical issue is the shape of the city centre. The Presqu-ile is a narrow strip of land between the Rhone and the Saone, and its streets were laid out long before delivery vehicles: one-way systems, tight corners and very limited kerb space. We work out where the van can legally stand before the day rather than discovering it on arrival.
The Croix-Rousse is the other one to flag. It sits on a steep hill above the Presqu-ile, the approach roads are narrow and steeply graded, and the old silk-weaving buildings have unusually tall rooms reached by narrow stairs and, in places, the covered passageways known as traboules. None of that stops a small load, but it does change where we park and how far we carry, so we ask for photographs of the entrance and the street when we quote. Villeurbanne, Ecully and the newer developments around Confluence are much easier and a van can usually reach the door.

What a man-and-van load to Lyon usually looks like
What we carryStudio and one-bedroom contents
Bed, sofa, table and boxes, typically three to six cubic metres. The standard Lyon job.
Student and placement moves
Lyon has a very large student population. Desk, bed, bike, books and clothes, often timed around the academic year.
Professional relocations on a posting
A single person moving for a role at Part-Dieu or in the biotech cluster, taking personal effects rather than a household.
A few large or valuable pieces
Furniture, instruments or artwork too awkward for a courier and far too small for a lorry.
Furnishing a flat in stages
Goods sent out across successive runs rather than all in one go, which suits a move that happens over months.
Every quote is built around your home, not a price list.
The cost of a move to Lyon varies with more than the number of rooms. What shapes your price:
- The size of your home — a studio, a two-bed flat and a four-bed house are very different volumes to move.
- Access at both ends — stairs, lifts, narrow streets or a long carry all affect the job.
- Packing — full professional packing, fragile items only, or you pack yourself.
- Dedicated lorry or shared part-load — the space and timing your move needs.
- Storage & specialist items — pianos, artwork, or storage either side of the Channel.
