Removals toMilan
Our shortest Italian route. Scheduled departures from the UK to Milan, with the customs relief, the Area C permit and the courtyard access all arranged before we load.
The one Italian move that is usually about work
Milan is Italy's financial and commercial capital and the only Italian city where UK arrivals are predominantly moving for a job rather than a life change. Banking, law, consultancy, fashion, design and a growing technology sector recruit steadily from London, and the moves that follow look like Frankfurt moves: a fixed start date, a relocation package, a full household and a reasonable prospect of a return posting.
It is also the most functional Italian city to live in, with the best transport and the shortest drive from the UK of anywhere we go in Italy. The trade-off is that it is expensive by Italian standards and the housing stock in the desirable central districts is old.

UK to Milan, step by step
After a quick survey — in person or over video — you get a fixed, itemised quote. Then it runs like this.
We survey and fix the price
Video walkthrough or an in-person visit. One itemised number covering collection, the crossing, the Alpine run, customs and delivery, including the external lift and the ZTL permit where your address needs them.
We collect, pack and clear customs
Our crew loads at your door. Down through France and over the Alps by tunnel. Since Brexit you need Transfer of Residence relief, an Italian codice fiscale and an itemised inventory, and we prepare the paperwork with you.
We deliver into your home
Not to the edge of the restricted zone. We obtain the ZTL access permit and the street occupation permit, and bring an autoscala where the staircase will not take your furniture.

What moving into a Milan apartment actually involves
Milan runs two overlapping vehicle restrictions and both bite on delivery day. **Area B** is a low-emission zone covering almost the whole city, and **Area C** is a charged restricted zone over the historic centre with camera enforcement and automatic fines. A removal vehicle needs the right emissions class and, for the centre, a paid permit obtained in advance. This is not a risk worth taking on the day, so we arrange it before the lorry leaves.
The buildings themselves follow a pattern. The handsome blocks of Brera, Porta Romana, Navigli and Porta Venezia are built around an internal courtyard reached through an arched carriage entrance, and that arch sets the limit: if the lorry will not pass under it, everything is carried or lifted from the street. Lifts, where they exist, are small retrofits that will not take a sofa or a wardrobe, so an autoscala, the external ladder lift, is standard equipment here. Out in the newer towers at Porta Nuova and CityLife there are proper service lifts and booked loading bays, which is a different job entirely.

How much does a removal to Milan from the UK cost?
A removal from the UK to Milan typically costs between £900 and £5,500 depending on the volume you are moving, and takes 5-9 days door to door. A shared part-load is the cheapest way to move a smaller home; a dedicated vehicle is faster and suits a full household.
| Move size | Volume | Typical cost | Door-to-door |
|---|---|---|---|
| Part load | 5-10 m³ | £900 - £1,450 | 5-9 days |
| Studio / 1-bed | 15-20 m³ | £1,300 - £1,950 | 5-9 days |
| 2-bed home | 25-30 m³ | £2,000 - £3,000 | 4-7 days |
| 3-bed home | 35-45 m³ | £2,800 - £4,000 | 4-7 days |
| 4-bed home or larger | 50-65 m³ | £3,800 - £5,500 | 4-7 days |
- Every figure includes loading, the crossing, fuel, tolls and delivery into the room.
- Access affects the price: a parking permit, a lift booking or an external furniture lift are priced at survey, not added on the day.
- Transfer of Residence relief means no duty or VAT on your own household goods when you are moving your main home, and we prepare the paperwork with you.

The cost of a move to Milan varies with more than the number of rooms. What shapes your price:
- The size of your home — a studio, a two-bed flat and a four-bed house are very different volumes to move.
- Access at both ends — stairs, lifts, narrow streets or a long carry all affect the job.
- Packing — full professional packing, fragile items only, or you pack yourself.
- Dedicated lorry or shared part-load — the space and timing your move needs.
- Storage & specialist items — pianos, artwork, or storage either side of the Channel.
