Removals toRome
Scheduled departures from the UK to Rome. The strictest restricted-traffic zone in Europe, and the permit to enter it is part of what we do.
An institutional city with a very old British presence
Rome's UK population clusters around the institutions: the embassies, the UN food agencies, the British School at Rome, the international schools and the academic and heritage sector that has drawn British scholars here for three hundred years. Alongside that sits a steady flow of people who fell for the city on holiday and came back for good, which is a different sort of client with a different sort of load.
Practically, most arrivals end up either in the centro storico and Trastevere, which are beautiful and very hard to deliver into, or in Parioli, Prati and the residential districts north and east, which are far more straightforward. Which of those you choose changes the shape of the move more than anything else.

UK to Rome, step by step
After a quick survey — in person or over video — you get a fixed, itemised quote. Then it runs like this.
We survey and fix the price
Video walkthrough or an in-person visit. One itemised number covering collection, the crossing, the Alpine run, customs and delivery, including the external lift and the ZTL permit where your address needs them.
We collect, pack and clear customs
Our crew loads at your door. Down through France and over the Alps by tunnel. Since Brexit you need Transfer of Residence relief, an Italian codice fiscale and an itemised inventory, and we prepare the paperwork with you.
We deliver into your home
Not to the edge of the restricted zone. We obtain the ZTL access permit and the street occupation permit, and bring an autoscala where the staircase will not take your furniture.

What moving into a Rome apartment actually involves
Rome's **ZTL**, the zona a traffico limitato, is the strictest restricted zone we deal with anywhere. It covers the centro storico and Trastevere, it is enforced by camera at every entrance, and the fines are automatic and issued per entry. A removal vehicle cannot simply drive in: we apply to the comune for a temporary access permit tied to the vehicle registration and the delivery window, and if that window slips, the permit has to be amended. It is the single most important thing to get right on a Roman move and the reason we are firm about confirmed dates.
Inside the zone the streets are laid with sampietrini, the small square basalt setts, and are frequently one-way and barely wider than the vehicle. The buildings are old, courtyards are small, and lifts are tiny where they exist at all, so furniture goes up on an autoscala from the street. We also obtain the occupation permit that lets us stand the vehicle and site the lift. In Parioli, Prati and EUR the streets are wide, the buildings modern and the whole thing becomes an ordinary delivery.

How much does a removal to Rome from the UK cost?
A removal from the UK to Rome typically costs between £900 and £5,500 depending on the volume you are moving, and takes 5-9 days door to door. A shared part-load is the cheapest way to move a smaller home; a dedicated vehicle is faster and suits a full household.
| Move size | Volume | Typical cost | Door-to-door |
|---|---|---|---|
| Part load | 5-10 m³ | £900 - £1,450 | 5-9 days |
| Studio / 1-bed | 15-20 m³ | £1,300 - £1,950 | 5-9 days |
| 2-bed home | 25-30 m³ | £2,000 - £3,000 | 4-7 days |
| 3-bed home | 35-45 m³ | £2,800 - £4,000 | 4-7 days |
| 4-bed home or larger | 50-65 m³ | £3,800 - £5,500 | 4-7 days |
- Every figure includes loading, the crossing, fuel, tolls and delivery into the room.
- Access affects the price: a parking permit, a lift booking or an external furniture lift are priced at survey, not added on the day.
- Transfer of Residence relief means no duty or VAT on your own household goods when you are moving your main home, and we prepare the paperwork with you.
The table above is a guide. Your exact price comes from a free survey.
The cost of a move to Rome varies with more than the number of rooms. What shapes your price:
- The size of your home — a studio, a two-bed flat and a four-bed house are very different volumes to move.
- Access at both ends — stairs, lifts, narrow streets or a long carry all affect the job.
- Packing — full professional packing, fragile items only, or you pack yourself.
- Dedicated lorry or shared part-load — the space and timing your move needs.
- Storage & specialist items — pianos, artwork, or storage either side of the Channel.
