Why The Hague

A diplomatic city with room to breathe

The Hague is where the Dutch government sits and where the international courts, tribunals and a very dense layer of embassies and NGOs are based, so a large share of the moves we make here are postings with fixed start dates and full households. Shell and a substantial legal and policy sector add to it. The British community is long established rather than transient, and the British School in the Netherlands is a common reason families choose here over Amsterdam.

It is also simply a more spacious city. Wide streets in Benoordenhout and Statenkwartier, houses with gardens, and the beach at Scheveningen fifteen minutes from the centre. People bring more furniture here than they do to Amsterdam because there is somewhere to put it.

How the move works

UK to The Hague, step by step

After a quick survey — in person or over video — you get a fixed, itemised quote. Then it runs like this.

01

We survey and fix the price

Video walkthrough or an in-person visit. One itemised number covering collection, the crossing, customs and delivery, including the external lift and the parking reservation where your address needs them.

02

We collect, pack and clear customs

Our crew loads at your door. For the Netherlands we can run the direct North Sea crossing rather than the Calais route. Since Brexit you need Transfer of Residence relief and a valued inventory, and we prepare both so nothing stalls at the border.

03

We deliver into your home

Not to the pavement. We reserve the parking bay, bring a verhuislift where the staircase will not take your furniture, and reassemble what we took apart.

What moving into The Hague actually involves

This is the most straightforward delivery in the Netherlands. The embassy districts were laid out in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries with proper streets and wide frontages, so a full-size lorry can usually get close to the door and the staircases in the townhouses take furniture normally. Where a flat is above the second floor we still assess for a verhuislift, but it is the exception here rather than the routine it is in Amsterdam.

Two local points do matter. Parking in the centre and along the coast at Scheveningen is permit-controlled and busy, so we reserve a bay with the municipality in advance rather than relying on finding space. And the older canal-side streets around the Hofvijver and Zeeheldenkwartier are narrower than the rest of the city, with the same steep Dutch staircases you find in Amsterdam, so an address there is assessed the same way.

What it costs

How much does a removal to The Hague from the UK cost?

A removal from the UK to The Hague typically costs between £650 and £4,200 depending on the volume you are moving, and takes 2-6 days door to door. A shared part-load is the cheapest way to move a smaller home; a dedicated vehicle is faster and suits a full household.

  • Every figure includes loading, the crossing, fuel, tolls and delivery into the room.
  • Access affects the price: a parking permit, a lift booking or an external furniture lift are priced at survey, not added on the day.
  • Transfer of Residence relief means no duty or VAT on your own household goods when you are moving your main home, and we prepare the paperwork with you.

The cost of a move to The Hague varies with more than the number of rooms. What shapes your price:

  • The size of your home — a studio, a two-bed flat and a four-bed house are very different volumes to move.
  • Access at both ends — stairs, lifts, narrow streets or a long carry all affect the job.
  • Packing — full professional packing, fragile items only, or you pack yourself.
  • Dedicated lorry or shared part-load — the space and timing your move needs.
  • Storage & specialist items — pianos, artwork, or storage either side of the Channel.

The Hague move FAQs

Questions people ask us about this route

How much does a removal from the UK to The Hague cost?
Typically between £650 for a small shared part-load and £4,200 for a large four-bed household. The exact figure depends on volume, access at both ends and whether you take a dedicated vehicle or share one. A free survey gives you one fixed, itemised price.
How long does a removal from the UK to The Hague take?
Two to four days door to door for a dedicated load. The Hague is around 330 miles from London and we can use the direct North Sea crossing rather than driving through Belgium from Calais. Part-loads run on our weekly Netherlands service.
Do I need customs paperwork to move to the Netherlands after Brexit?
Yes. Relocating your main home usually qualifies for Transfer of Residence relief, removing import duty and VAT, provided the goods have been owned six months and are imported within twelve months of the move. A valued inventory is also required. We prepare both with you.
Is access easier in The Hague than Amsterdam?
Considerably. The embassy districts have wide streets and generous frontages, so the lorry usually reaches the door and the staircases take furniture normally. External lifts are occasionally needed for upper-floor flats but are not the routine requirement they are in the Amsterdam canal belt.
Do you arrange parking for the lorry?
Yes. Central and Scheveningen parking is permit-controlled and heavily used, so we reserve a bay with the municipality ahead of the day.
Can you deliver to Wassenaar or Voorburg?
Yes. The surrounding municipalities are part of the same run and are generally easier again, with driveways and detached houses. Tell us the exact address at survey and we will price the access properly.
