Why Geneva

The most international city we deliver to

Geneva is a diplomatic and institutional move as much as a corporate one. The UN agencies, the WHO, the Red Cross, CERN just outside the city and a dense layer of NGOs and private banks between them draw a steady flow of UK staff, often on defined multi-year postings. That shapes the move: fixed start dates, a lot of full households, and a fair number of people who will move back again.

Geneva is also physically small and almost surrounded by France, so a great many people working in the city actually live over the border in the Pays de Gex or Haute-Savoie. That is a materially different move, with different customs treatment, and it is worth telling us which side of the border your address is on before we quote.

How the move works

UK to Geneva, step by step

After a quick survey — in person or over video — you get a fixed, itemised quote. Then it runs like this.

01

We survey and fix the price

Video walkthrough or an in-person visit. One itemised number covering collection, the crossing, the Swiss customs declaration and delivery, including the furniture lift and parking permit where your building needs them.

02

We collect, pack and clear customs

Our crew loads at your door. Switzerland is outside the EU, so this is a full customs entry, not a formality: we prepare Form 18.44 for duty-free removal goods and the itemised inventory it requires, and we time arrival for border office hours.

03

We deliver into your home

Not to the pavement. We arrange the parking permit, bring a Moebellift where the stairwell will not take your furniture, and work inside the building's permitted moving hours.

What moving into Geneva actually involves

Central Geneva is dense and tightly parked. The apartment blocks of Eaux-Vives, Champel and the Old Town have narrow entrance halls and small lifts, and there is no assumption that a lorry may simply stop outside: we apply to the city for the permit that reserves kerb space, and where the staircase will not take a wardrobe we bring a Moebellift and go in through the window. Building rules commonly set the hours a move may take place in, and Sundays are usually out.

The border is the other consideration and it is unusually important here. An address in Geneva is a Swiss customs entry; an address twenty minutes away in Ferney-Voltaire or Annemasse is an EU one, with Transfer of Residence relief instead of Form 18.44 and completely different paperwork. We have run both routes for years, but we need to know which one you are before the truck is loaded, not when it reaches the border.

What it costs

How much does a removal to Geneva from the UK cost?

A removal from the UK to Geneva typically costs between £800 and £5,200 depending on the volume you are moving, and takes 4-8 days door to door. A shared part-load is the cheapest way to move a smaller home; a dedicated vehicle is faster and suits a full household.

  • Every figure includes loading, the crossing, fuel, tolls and delivery into the room.
  • Access affects the price: a parking permit, a lift booking or an external furniture lift are priced at survey, not added on the day.
  • Swiss customs: duty-free import of household goods needs Form 18.44 and an itemised inventory, which we prepare with you.

The table above is a guide. Your exact price comes from a free survey.

The cost of a move to Geneva varies with more than the number of rooms. What shapes your price:

  • The size of your home — a studio, a two-bed flat and a four-bed house are very different volumes to move.
  • Access at both ends — stairs, lifts, narrow streets or a long carry all affect the job.
  • Packing — full professional packing, fragile items only, or you pack yourself.
  • Dedicated lorry or shared part-load — the space and timing your move needs.
  • Storage & specialist items — pianos, artwork, or storage either side of the Channel.

Geneva move FAQs

Questions people ask us about this route

How much does a removal from the UK to Geneva cost?
Typically between £800 for a small shared part-load and £5,200 for a large four-bed household. The exact figure depends on volume, access at both ends and whether you take a dedicated vehicle or share one. A free survey gives you one fixed, itemised price.
Do I pay duty moving my belongings to Geneva?
Normally no. Switzerland sits outside the EU so the move is a customs import, but household effects owned and used for at least six months and brought in as part of relocating your home qualify for duty-free entry. It needs Form 18.44 and an itemised inventory, both of which we prepare with you.
How long does a removal from the UK to Geneva take?
Four to six days door to door for a dedicated load. Geneva is about 560 miles from London, the shortest of our Swiss routes, but the customs entry has to be done in border office hours, which is usually what sets the date rather than the driving.
I am moving to the French side of the border. Is that different?
Very. An address in France, even one a few minutes from Geneva, is an EU move using Transfer of Residence relief rather than the Swiss removal-goods form. The paperwork, the border crossing and often the price all change. Tell us the actual address at survey and we will quote the correct route.
Can you deliver into a central Geneva apartment?
Yes. Most central blocks have small lifts and narrow entrance halls, so we assess access at survey and bring a Moebellift where the stairs will not take the furniture. We also apply for the parking permit that holds kerb space for the lorry.
Can you move a part load to Geneva?
Yes. Our Swiss run takes part-loads, so you pay for the space you use rather than a whole vehicle. It suits shorter postings and second homes, which are both common here.
