Why Madrid

A capital move, not a coastal one

Madrid attracts a different British mover to the Costas — people relocating for work in finance, law, tech and international schools, or families following a posting. It is a city of apartments rather than villas, which changes what a move actually looks like: lifts, stairwells and street permits matter far more than square metres.

We run Spain on a scheduled service rather than ad hoc, so a Madrid move is planned around a departure date rather than quoted blind. The long leg is France; the Spanish leg from the Basque border down through Burgos is fast, open motorway.

How the move works

UK to Madrid, step by step

After a quick survey — in person or over video — you get a fixed, itemised quote. Then it runs like this.

01

We collect and pack in the UK

Our crew loads at your door anywhere in the UK. Add full professional packing, or we drop materials in advance if you would rather pack yourself.

02

We cross and clear customs

Ferry or Eurotunnel, then south through France and across at Irún. Spain requires a duty-relief application with your NIE, padrón and a valued inventory — we prepare the pack with you before we load.

03

We deliver into your Madrid home

Unloaded and reassembled where you want it. Where the street or the lift will not take a full lorry, we shuttle the load in with a smaller van.

What moving into Madrid actually involves

Central Madrid is governed by two things that catch people out. The first is Madrid ZBE and the Distrito Centro restricted zone, which limits which vehicles may enter and when. The second is parking: to unload legally on most central streets you need a reserved bay booked in advance with the Ayuntamiento, and without it a lorry has nowhere legitimate to stand.

Building access is the other constraint. A great many blocks in Chamberí, Malasaña, Chueca and Lavapiés are pre-war, with narrow stairwells and lifts too small for a sofa or a wardrobe. We check lift dimensions and stairwell turns before the move and bring an external furniture lift where the window line allows it. Newer developments out toward Las Rozas, Pozuelo and Alcobendas are far more straightforward — parking on site and a service lift.

What it costs

How much does a removal to Madrid from the UK cost?

A removal from the UK to Madrid typically costs between £850 and £5,400 depending on the volume you are moving, and takes 4-8 days door to door. A shared part-load is the cheapest way to move a smaller home; a dedicated vehicle is faster and suits a full household.

  • Every figure includes loading, the crossing, fuel, tolls and delivery into the room.
  • Access affects the price: a parking permit, a lift booking or an external furniture lift are priced at survey, not added on the day.
  • Transfer of Residence relief means no duty or VAT on your own household goods when you are moving your main home, and we prepare the paperwork with you.

The table above is a guide. Your exact price comes from a free survey.

The cost of a move to Madrid varies with more than the number of rooms. What shapes your price:

  • The size of your home — a studio, a two-bed flat and a four-bed house are very different volumes to move.
  • Access at both ends — stairs, lifts, narrow streets or a long carry all affect the job.
  • Packing — full professional packing, fragile items only, or you pack yourself.
  • Dedicated lorry or shared part-load — the space and timing your move needs.
  • Storage & specialist items — pianos, artwork, or storage either side of the Channel.

Madrid move FAQs

Questions people ask us about this route

How much does a removal from the UK to Madrid cost?
Typically between £850 for a small shared part-load and £5,400 for a large four-bed household. The exact figure depends on volume, access at both ends and whether you take a dedicated vehicle or share one. A free survey gives you one fixed, itemised price.
How long does a move from the UK to Madrid take?
Most door-to-door moves complete in five to seven days. Part-loads run on our scheduled Spain service, so the exact date depends on the next departure; a dedicated load can travel sooner.
What customs paperwork do I need for Spain after Brexit?
You will need to apply for duty relief on your household goods, which in Spain means your NIE number, a padrón (empadronamiento) certificate for your new address, proof of your previous UK residence, and a detailed valued inventory. We prepare the inventory and the pack with you as part of the move.
Can you get a lorry to my apartment in central Madrid?
Often not directly, and that is normal. Central districts sit inside restricted-traffic zones and most streets need a reserved unloading bay arranged with the council. We assess the address in advance and plan either a permitted bay, a shuttle van, or an external furniture lift.
Do you move part loads to Madrid, or only whole houses?
Both. If you are moving less than a full household, sharing space on a scheduled Spain load is by far the most economical option.
