Man and Van toNice

A studio, a single room or a few pieces of furniture heading to the Cote d Azur. We carry part-loads on a shared vehicle, so a small move to Nice is priced on the space it uses rather than on a whole lorry.

Why Nice

The second-home capital of the French coast, and a lot of part-loads

Nice produces more part-loads than almost anywhere else we serve, because so many British moves here are not whole households. People buy an apartment and furnish it gradually, keep a base in the UK, retire out in stages, or take a role in the tech and conference economy along the coast. All of that means three or four cubic metres at a time rather than a full lorry.

At around 1,160 km it is also the longest French route we run, so the economics matter. A dedicated vehicle has to be paid for whether it travels full or empty. Putting your load on a shared van alongside others is usually the difference between a proportionate price and one that costs more than the furniture.

How the move works

UK to Nice, step by step

After a quick survey — in person or over video — you get a fixed, itemised quote. Then it runs like this.

01

We price it by the space you use

Send a short video walkthrough of what is going. We measure the volume and check the access at both ends, then give you one fixed figure covering collection, the crossing, customs and delivery.

02

We collect and clear customs

Our crew loads at your door and your goods travel on a shared vehicle with other loads heading the same way. We prepare the Transfer of Residence relief and the valued inventory so nothing is held at the border.

03

We deliver into the room

Not to the pavement. We carry in, place where you want it and reassemble what we took apart. Where the stairwell will not take a piece we tell you at quote stage, not on the day.

Getting a van to your door in Nice

Nice operates a low-emission zone and vehicles need a valid Crit-Air sticker, which ours carry. The specific thing to plan for here is Vieux Nice. The old town is largely pedestrianised, and vehicle access is restricted to a delivery window in the earlier part of the day, enforced by bollards and cameras. Miss the window and the delivery does not happen, so we book the run into it rather than arriving and hoping. If your address is in the old town, tell us at quote stage.

Elsewhere the constraints are more ordinary but still worth pricing. The streets behind the Promenade des Anglais are dense with parked cars and short on loading space, and many buildings are older blocks with small lifts that take boxes but not a sofa, so we ask for the floor and the lift size. Summer is the other factor: traffic along the coast road and through the centre is heavy from June to September and delivery slots are tighter, which is why a July date needs more notice than a February one. Cimiez, Saint-Isidore and the newer developments inland are much easier and a van can usually reach the entrance.

Official sources: gov.uk guidance on living in France, French customs, douane.gouv.fr for import formalities, and the Crit-Air certificate service. Local access rules are published by the French government low-emission zone pages.

What a man-and-van load to Nice usually looks like

What we carry

Furnishing an apartment in stages

The classic Nice job. Goods sent out across successive runs as the property is fitted out rather than all in one delivery.

Studio and one-bedroom contents

Bed, sofa, table and boxes, typically three to six cubic metres.

Staged retirement moves

Personal effects and favourite furniture going out ahead of a permanent move, with the rest following later.

A few large or valuable pieces

Artwork, antiques and instruments that need proper handling but nowhere near a lorry load.

Small office and business stock

Equipment and stock for a small business operating along the coast.

Every quote is built around your home, not a price list.

The cost of a move to Nice varies with more than the number of rooms. What shapes your price:

  • The size of your home — a studio, a two-bed flat and a four-bed house are very different volumes to move.
  • Access at both ends — stairs, lifts, narrow streets or a long carry all affect the job.
  • Packing — full professional packing, fragile items only, or you pack yourself.
  • Dedicated lorry or shared part-load — the space and timing your move needs.
  • Storage & specialist items — pianos, artwork, or storage either side of the Channel.

Tell us a little about your move and we will come back with a clear, itemised quote.

Nice move FAQs

Questions people ask us about this route

How much does a man and van to Nice cost?
It is priced on the volume your goods occupy in a shared vehicle rather than a flat rate, so a three cubic metre load costs far less than a full one-bedroom flat. Send a short video walkthrough and we will return one fixed price covering collection, the crossing, customs and delivery into the room.
How long does a man and van take from London to Nice?
Three to six days door to door. It is around 1,160 km by road from London, roughly fourteen to sixteen hours of driving via the Channel and the A8, and the longest French route we run. Departures are weekly.
Can you deliver into Vieux Nice?
Yes, but it has to be booked into the permitted delivery window. The old town is largely pedestrianised with restricted vehicle access in the earlier part of the day, enforced by bollards and cameras. We plan the run around that window, so tell us at quote stage if your address is in the old town.
Can I send furniture out in stages rather than all at once?
Yes, and on this route it is one of the most common arrangements. Because departures are weekly and you pay for the volume you use, sending three or four cubic metres at a time as you furnish an apartment works out sensibly and spreads the cost.
How is the price worked out?
By the volume your goods occupy in the vehicle, plus access at both ends. A short video walkthrough gives us that, and you get one figure covering collection, the crossing, customs and delivery.
Is this different from your full removals service?
Yes, genuinely. Man and van is a shared vehicle for small and part loads. A full household move to Nice is a dedicated vehicle with a survey and packing, and is quoted separately.
What happens at customs now?
Since Brexit this is a real import even for a few boxes. Moving your main home normally qualifies for Transfer of Residence relief, so no duty or VAT. We prepare the valued inventory with you.
Do you carry the goods in?
Yes, into the room rather than to the kerb. If a piece will not fit the lift or the stairwell we tell you at quote stage, not on the day.
