How long does a UK to France removal take?
Door-to-door transit for a UK to France removal is 2 to 7 days, depending on your destination within France and whether you’re on a dedicated vehicle or a part-load service. Here’s how the numbers break down.
By destination
| Destination | Dedicated vehicle | Part-load |
|---|---|---|
| Paris and Île-de-France | 2–3 days | 3–5 days |
| Normandy and Brittany | 2–4 days | 4–6 days |
| Loire Valley | 3–4 days | 4–6 days |
| Bordeaux and Aquitaine | 3–5 days | 5–7 days |
| Lyon and Rhône-Alpes | 3–5 days | 5–8 days |
| Dordogne and Périgord | 4–6 days | 6–9 days |
| Provence and Côte d’Azur | 4–7 days | 7–10 days |
Times are door to door from UK collection to French delivery. Customs clearance is factored in when paperwork is submitted in advance.
What affects transit time
Dedicated vs part-load. A dedicated vehicle goes directly to your French destination. A part-load vehicle combines your move with other consignments and may make other deliveries on the same run, adding 2–4 days.
French weekend HGV restrictions. Lorries over 7.5 tonnes cannot run on French motorways between 10pm Saturday and 10pm Sunday. We plan departure days around this rather than losing a day sitting in a layby.
Customs clearance. When the declaration and inventory are submitted and accepted before the vehicle boards, clearance at the French border is routine — typically under an hour. When paperwork is incomplete or submitted late, vehicles can be held for hours or longer.
Access at delivery. A property that a full lorry can reach directly takes less time to unload than one requiring a transfer van and two trips. We factor access into the delivery day estimate at survey stage.
